About Dr. Haris Aziz
Dr. Haris Aziz is a globally recognised research scientist in the fields of artificial intelligence, theoretical computer science and mathematical social sciences. Dr. Aziz was listed among the 2015 IEEE’s biennial international list of AI’s 10 to Watch; he was awarded the CORE Chris Wallace Research Excellence Award for 2017, a prize that is awarded to one scientist annually for significant contributions to computer science research in Australian and New Zealand; he is the recipient of the Julius Career Award (2016-18), and he has solved what's been called "one of the most important open problems in 20th century mathematics": how to cut a cake so that each person ends up with a fair share for any number of people.
He was recently honoured by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) for his contribution to Game Theory and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Apart from the latest award, Aziz has also been recognised as the national field leader in Australia in the area of decision sciences, and was listed among the world’s top two percent of scientists in a study led by Stanford University researchers and published by PLoS Biology.
Dr. Aziz is currently a Scientia Associate Professor, School of Computer Science and Engineering, University of New South Wales and the director of the UNSW AI Institute. He has over 150 scientific publications to his credit, including over 100 conference publications and 50 book chapters/journal articles.
