Maheen Hassan, a LUMS BSc 2011 graduate, and member of the University's Balochistan Alumni Chapter, has topped this year’s Central Superior Service (CSS) Examination. This outstanding achievement is a source of great pride for the LUMS community.

Ms. Hassan is currently working as Assistant Commissioner at the Federal Board of Revenue. Her main goal, however, was to work at the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) and she remained committed to achieving that dream. She decided to make one last attempt when she was perfectly ready: “My aim in all three attempts was PAS. The motivation was not new—it was just a matter of time.”

Inspired by her father who had also served in PAS, Ms. Hassan was determined to follow his example. “My father helped me see how I can connect with people at the grassroots level and bring the state to those who cannot approach it themselves.”

Ms. Hassan also credits her success to her core support system including her mother, her sisters, and her friends, who have helped her throughout her journey. She believes that a dependable support system is important for everyone, but even more so for working women.

Syed Babar Ali, Founding Pro Chancellor said, “Maheen’s achievement fills me with great pride. I wish her all the success as she joins the country’s civil service and contributes to the progress of our country.” Echoing a similar sentiment, Mr. Shahid Hussain, Rector, shared, “Maheen’s amazing feat in topping the highly competitive CSS exam is a source of pride and inspiration for all of us. Her commitment and perseverance will motivate and encourage many students to work hard towards achieving their ambitions.”

Ms. Hassan acknowledges the role played by LUMS in instilling a sense of ambition in her and equipping her with the skills that led to her success. “LUMS gave me everything I needed to join the service, which I joined right after graduation. Apart from quality education and personality development, LUMS helped me develop my writing skills, which are essential to succeed in CSS exams. Over the years, these skills have stayed with me and helped me achieve my aim now,” says Ms. Hassan.

Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, also expressed his delight and said, “Maheen, we are proud of your achievement! You have inspired young women to break boundaries and find success in challenging fields. I look forward to celebrating your success on campus and bring together many of our alumni who are in the civil service!”

Dr. Ali Khan, Dean, Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Social Sciences and Humanities (MGSHSS), also shared his thoughts on Ms. Hassan’s achievement, “Maheen follows in the footsteps of other LUMS alumni who have excelled in the CSS exam and have distinguished themselves in the civil service. MGSHSS has always committed itself to nurture change agents and outstanding individuals like Maheen to become catalysts in bringing important social change in our society.”
