US-Based LUMS Alumni Establish Endowment Fund to Support NOP Scholars

In a remarkable gesture of giving back to their alma mater, a group of LUMS alumni residing in the United States from the BSc Class of 2017 have come together to create the US Alumni Endowment Fund, aimed at supporting National Outreach Programme (NOP) scholars at LUMS. The fund, facilitated by Mr. Irtaza Haider, Mr. Abdullah Siddique, Mr. Muhammad Qamar Farooq, Mr. Mobeen Tariq, Mr. Mohammed Haseeb, Mr. Abdul Lateef Haamid, and Mr. Shahryar Tariq, represents a collective effort to give back to the university that shaped their careers and lives.

This initiative builds on a previous commitment made by alumni from the Class of 2017 who, three years ago, came together to sponsor an NOP scholar at LUMS. As this scholar neared the completion of their studies, the alumni decided to elevate their support by establishing an endowment fund. This new fund aims to ensure that future generations of NOP scholars will benefit from the same transformative opportunities that these alumni have also experienced.

Reflecting on the significance of this initiative, Mr. Farooq, one of the facilitators and a signatory to the agreement, shared his personal connection to the NOP program. “As a former NOP scholar, I personally understand the transformative impact that the NOP scholarship can have on a student's life, turning aspirations into reality," he said. "This endowment fund is a dream come true for me, enabling me to give back to society and help students access the high-quality education at LUMS that I was fortunate to receive through the generosity of the donors who funded my education during my time as a student.”

The NOP has already transformed countless lives by enabling bright young minds to break free from the limitations of their circumstances. With the establishment of this endowment, more scholars will have the opportunity to unlock their potential, achieve their academic goals, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
